Intel's turnaround plan under CEO Lip Bu Tan has shown positive results with the company receiving investments from competitors such as NVIDIA and the US government now being among the shareholders. Next on Intel's agenda is to offer GPUs for data centers to compete with NVIDIA.
This was revealed by Lip Bu Tan during the Cisco AI Summit event. Intel had offered the Data Center GPU Max a few years ago but it was less well received than the products offered by NVIDIA and AMD. Eric Demmers, who joined Intel from Qualcomm last month, will lead the team developing this new data center GPU.
The failure of the previous CPU and data center GPU caused the company to suffer huge losses until Pat Gelsinger was forced to resign as CEO. So Intel's latest GPU project also needs to be successful to avoid a repeat of the past issues.
