WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will allow messages to be sent as ‘spoilers’ similar to the functionality found in Threads. Through it, users can hide the content of the message so that it does not continue to be displayed in the conversation. Instead, the message will only appear when the recipient taps on the message bubble to reveal the content.
This feature is designed to hide the message either the entire text or just a specific part of it. Technically, this feature will be marked with options before and after the text. Once sent, the content will not be displayed immediately, giving the recipient control over whether they want to read it or not. For now, it only supports text messages, but WhatsApp may consider supporting images in a future update,
This function is also seen as an interesting alternative to the ‘View Once’ feature, which previously caused the message or image to disappear immediately after opening, making it difficult to refer to again.
