Zakat fitrah is a mandatory zakat that is paid by every Muslim during the month of Ramadan before the Aidilfitri prayer. It serves as a complement to fasting throughout Ramadan and at the same time is a form of assistance to those in need. The zakat fitrah rate is determined by the state Islamic Religious Council based on the current price of rice. Each state sets a different rate, usually between RM7.50 to RM25 depending on the type of rice that is used as daily food.
