Corning has launched Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, its most durable new generation screen protection material ever. In lab tests, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 survived drops from over 2 meters onto concrete. It also withstood at least 20 repeated drops from 1 meter onto surfaces such as tarmac.
According to Corning, competing aluminosilicate glass fails on the first drop. This high level of durability is achieved by incorporating crystalline materials into the glass matrix. The result is a material that is more durable and crack-resistant than regular glass.
The first device to use Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 is the Motorola Razr Fold, which was officially launched at MWC Barcelona earlier this morning.
