Last year, Apple increased the number of iPhones manufactured in India to avoid high tariffs imposed on products imported from China. Yesterday, Bloomberg reported that last year around 55 million iPhones out of the 220-230 million iPhones manufactured by Apple were manufactured in India, which is equivalent to around 25%.
Originally, the iPhone was manufactured in India to take advantage of the Make in India incentive by the Indian government with tax breaks. With the iPhone's more affordable price, Apple also wants to conquer the Indian market, which has been dominated by Android. As a result, 14 million iPhones were sold in India last year, an increase of 9% compared to 2024.
The unresolved tariff issue in the United States forced Apple to move production from China. Previously, the transfer was done due to disruptions caused by the pandemic. Because of Trump's tariffs, chip production and Mac Mini will now also be returned to the United States.
