Meta Reportedly Will Lay Off Nearly 20% of Employees

Meta, the company behind Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Threads, is now reportedly planning to lay off nearly 20% of its employees. Meta says this is just speculation, and has not confirmed it at this time.

If true, then it will be the most drastic step in Meta's workforce reduction so far. Previously, in 2022, Meta also cut a large number of its employees, impacting 13% of its employees at that time.

This reduction in workforce is said to be due to investment and development focused on artificial intelligence, in addition to preparations for using AI to assist employees for development.

Various companies have begun to focus on cutting employees recently, and have also used AI assistance in performing a number of tasks. For Meta itself, they are currently actively developing their new artificial intelligence model, in addition to having invested in the acquisition of Manus, as well as the recent Moltbook. Meta is also developing its own chips, in addition to making high investments in the development of data centers.
