Microsoft Promises to Improve Windows 11 Quality After Heavy User Criticism

Microsoft outlined a big plan to improve the performance and quality of the Windows 11 user experience throughout this year. This was done after users heavily criticized various issues with Windows 11 such as updates that caused computers to fail, the introduction of unsolicited AI features and a less smooth operating system with serious latency.

Microsoft will improve the core Windows experience such as the Taskbar can now be anywhere by users. The size can also be changed and the Recommended section in the Start menu is more relevant.

Copilot in Windows will be integrated more meaningfully and has a focus. Copilot integration in applications such as Snipping Tool, Photos, Widgets, and Notepad will be reduced after this. Widgets are also quieter by default to reduce interference and control over when and how Widgets appear.

WIndows 11 performance will be faster and more consistent. This is through reduced resource usage by Windows, faster application launch and better memory efficiency. In File Explorer, faster launch along with navigation, search, and file operations.

Windows Update will be less disruptive with just a monthly reboot for most users. Not all updates will require a restart of the computer. When activating a Windows 11 computer, users will finally be able to choose to skip the lengthy update process entirely, unlike the macOS first-time setup process.

These are just some of the improvements Microsoft will make this year. There are updates to driver software, the Windows Insider experience, and how to provide feedback. For a more complete list, see the links below.
