Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank 5000 Review – Thin as Cili Padi

In the market where many powerbank brands are releasing their products with huge battery capacity with fast charging for mobile devices. However, Xiaomi appears to be taking a slightly opposite step when they released the Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank 5000. Is this thin powerbank with a capacity of 5000 mAH enough for everyday use?. Continue reading this review article to find out more.

As the name of this powerbank suggests, it is a magnetic powerbank with a capacity of 5000mAH. Xiaomi markets this powerbank not only for their devices but also for other brands, especially the iPhone which has Magsafe and Pixel with PixelSnap. Maybe it's time for Xiaomi devices to be equipped with their own magnetic system as well.

With a capacity of 5000mAH, this powerbank is definitely very safe to bring on an airplane, and it is even equipped with CCC certification for China. The entire body is made of aluminum except for the magnetic charging place. It also makes this powerbank feel premium when held with a thinness of only 6mm.

At the bottom there is a power button to check the battery level or start charging, a USB-C hole for the purpose of recharging this powerbank or charging devices wired and there are four white LEDs as an indicator for the battery level in the powerbank.

In terms of the charging system, the powerbank supports Qi2 15W charging, but for iPhone devices it can charge at a rate of 7.5W. It can also use wired charging via USB-C with speeds up to 22.5W.

Usage Experience

This powerbank does not have any additional interesting features such as being able to connect to applications and so on. This is a powerbank that works just like other powerbanks on the market today. If you use wirelessly, just place it on the back and it will charge, the same process is also for wired charging.

To test this powerbank, I used two devices, namely, Nothing Phone (3) and also iPhone 17. What I found was that this powerbank heats up quite quickly when used either wired or wirelessly. This provides a less comfortable experience especially when placing this powerbank in a trouser pocket to charge the device.

In terms of charging speed, when using wired it is definitely faster where I can charge Nothing Phone (3) from 50% to 80% in about 30 minutes. If wirelessly it is quite slow especially with the iPhone because it can only charge at 7.5W so the battery from 50% to 80% takes 1 hour.

Wireless and Wired Charging Simultaneously

The charging frequency is not too high for this 5000mAH powerbank, Nothing Phone (3) can be charged in only 2 times and that's not from 0%. For the iPhone 17, it can be charged in 2.5 times because of the smaller battery. For me, this powerbank only acts to 'topup' your device's battery and is not a powerbank to charge the device from empty to full. Recharging this powerbank takes a long time, only 1 hour because it uses the same speed as the output via USB-C, which is 22.5W

Conclusion

In my opinion, the Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Powerbank 5000 is quite suitable as your daily powerbank if you don't use your device frequently outside and can easily access a charging place like in the office. Its small capacity is quite impractical for me to use this powerbank as a daily powerbank, but its thin body makes it very easy to store compared to the size of powerbanks on the market today.

The selling price for the Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Powerbank 5000 is RM259, a selling price like this will certainly elicit the words 'good buy' from most people including myself.
