Sustainability has been a goal of Apple since the beginning. For example, its global Apple Store operations use sustainable power sources and they are in the process of making their supply chain more environmentally friendly. This week Apple announced that 30% of recycled materials were used in all of their products released last year.
Meanwhile, the cobalt in all Apple-designed batteries, the rare earth elements in all magnets and the gold and tin in circuit boards are now 100% recycled. In fact, all materials — recycled or not — are from responsible sources, with strict requirements for human rights and environmental protection.
In the production of the MacBook Neo, 60% of the components use recycled materials, the highest in any Apple product to date. The new design reduces raw material use by up to 50% and the aluminum anodizing process saves water with 70% of the water recycled.
Apple's goal by 2030 is to be completely carbon neutral with all water use in Apple facilities being completely replaced.
