Apple will make major improvements to the photo editing features in iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 using Apple Intelligence according to a report by Mark Gurman in Bloomberg. This AI-assisted photo editing feature will be run directly from the device and it will offer performance compared to the current feature that does not offer consistent results.
The feature will be called Apple Intelligence Tools in the Photos app. The edits that will be available soon are Extend which produces additional content outside the original frame similar to Generative Expand in Google Photos. Enhance automatically improves color, lighting and image quality.
Meanwhile, Reframe will change the perspective of photos, especially for spatial photos Vision Pro. Finally, Clean Up will be further improved to allow objects to be removed from images better.
Apple's AI strategy at this time is still behind that offered in the Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy. The photo editing features on Android are much better with missing faces that can be generated even if a phone is blocked. Not stopping there, Gemini and Circle to Search also have various useful features compared to Siri which is quite limited.
