A Malay proverb says ‘a boat that has been left adrift can be undone, a bad word that has been left adrift is worse’. In the online digital world, not many people have ever been left adrift but leaving a comment while under the influence of emotion is normal. Instagram today introduced a feature to edit comments left on their platform.
Comments can be edited by the owner of the comment within 15 minutes of being left. Comments can be edited indefinitely during that quarter-hour period. Other users can see that the comment has been edited but the original message cannot be seen as is done on X.
Only the text of the comment can be edited. If the comment contains text and images, the images cannot be removed or replaced. For those who often get caught up in words, now you can retract less sensitive comments within 15 minutes. But remember after a screenshot is taken and spread to the internet, it is like Shidee said, it’s too late, there’s no point in regretting it anymore.
