Singaporean Data Centre Company Wants to Invest RM28 Billion in Malaysia by Year-End

Malaysia looks set to see a new boost in the data centre sector. Recently, it was reported that Singaporean data centre company Day One Data Centres will invest RM28 billion in the country by the end of this year.

The company said the investment will be used to accelerate the development of new infrastructure, expansion of existing operations and shared services and talent development programmes to produce new data centre experts for the company.

DayOne said that the new infrastructure development will add 1200 new employees to the company, and 5000 jobs could be generated during the construction and installation of the data centre equipment.

DayOne Data Centres CEO Jamie Khoo said Malaysia has become a regional pillar for the company, supported by existing infrastructure, including a regional operations hub in Johor and an expanded service centre in the capital.

The investment will expand DayOne’s operations in two locations, including Kuala Lumpur and Johor. Kuala Lumpur is the location of the company's service center, which will add 200 permanent jobs in the finance, procurement, investment and corporate segments.

For the Johor office, DayOne will set up a regional operations and training hub to train over 1000 data center engineers to support artificial intelligence infrastructure.
