ByteDance Reportedly Starts Developing Its Own Processing Chips

ByteDance, the company behind short-form video platforms Douyin and TikTok, has recently reportedly begun the process of designing and developing its own AI processing chips to address the issue of CPU components for increasingly expensive AI inference tasks.

Reuters has reported that ByteDance is now in discussions and has begun the process of designing its own AI processing chips to assist in the inference process needed to enable its agent-based AI systems to operate faster and more efficiently.

For now, ByteDance is seen sourcing its processing chips from companies such as AMD and Intel, with Intel saying that the wait time for its CPUs will increase to six months, especially for customers in China. In fact, AMD has also said that the supply of CPU components for AI processing purposes is getting tighter due to high demand.

ByteDance has introduced AI video generation technology SeeDance, and is expected to introduce more AI technology to their other services in the future, so the start for them and producing their own processing chips is something that needs to be started now so that they do not face component problems in the future.

Reuters also said that for now, these chips are still in the design phase, and at this time it is still unknown who ByteDance's partners are in them and producing these ByteDance-specific processing chips.
