Google's artificial intelligence technology subsidiary, Google DeepMind, recently reportedly bought a stake in the popular space MMORPG developer, Eve Online, making Google DeepMind a minority shareholder in Fenris Creations, formerly known as CCP Games.
Fenris Creations CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson said that Google DeepMind's investment in the company is worth several million US dollars, but the specific amount invested was not disclosed.
The investment will allow Google DeepMind to use the Eve Online game as a sandbox to study the behavior of players in the game. Adrian Bolton, a spokesman for Google DeepMind, said that the research will allow Google's AI technology to learn how to make long-term plans and continuously learn when receiving new information.
Meanwhile, Hilmar also said that in the future, Eve Online players can also look forward to a new gaming experience that is expected to be developed together with Google DeepMind, but no details about it are known yet.
