Google teased the launch of the Googlebook laptop this morning that it will use a new operating system that is a hybrid of Android and ChromeOS. This confirms several rumors that this new OS is being developed to facilitate interaction between computers and smartphones in the Google ecosystem.
No information about the specifications was shared but it was confirmed to have a new Magic Pointer feature. When the “pointer” arrow is shaken, it will launch a feature similar to Circle to Search. Googlebook users can search for images displayed on the screen or generate images of them using the power of Gemini’s artificial intelligence (AI).
Users can also have Gemini create custom widgets for specific needs. Android applications on the phone can be opened directly on the Googlebook without having to install them first using the Google Cast feature.
The full keyboard also comes with a fingerprint scanner on the power button. Also visible are two USB-C ports, a 3.5mm audio jack and an HDMI. On the lid is a light bar that provides an indicator that Googlebook owners can still call Gemini without having to open the lid first.
The Googlebook will launch in the fall of 2026, which falls around September, with ASUS, Acer, Dell, Lenovo and HP being the five manufacturers that will offer their models. It is now almost certain to be shown off at the Google I/O event on May 19-20 and launched simultaneously with the Pixel 11 series.
