Sony today announced the new Sony A7R VI. It is advertised as a high-resolution mirrorless camera that is not only suitable for studio use, but also versatile enough to be an attractive option for professional video content creators.
The camera comes with a full-frame 66.8MP stacked CMOS sensor that supports video recording up to 8K with additional support for 4K120p for slow-motion recording. It also offers continuous recording capabilities of up to 30fps using the e-shutter and 10fps mechanically and provides pre-capture and adjustable Speed Boost options for action footage.
Pre-capture is a function that allows the camera to record several frames before the shutter button is fully pressed, while Speed Boost allows the burst rate to be quickly increased or decreased at the press of a dedicated button. Both act as instant controls to adjust the recording speed as needed.
This camera also uses a 5-axis IBIS image stabilization system with up to 8.5 stops of stabilization, which allows recording without the use of additional accessories such as a tripod to be done more stably. Furthermore, the ISO range starts from 50 to a maximum of 102,400, suitable for various lighting conditions.
This camera also supports two CFexpress Type A and SDXC UHS-II memory card slots and is equipped with Bluetooth, USB-C, HDMI with 4:2:2 12-bit output along with a 3.5mm audio jack and PC Sync. This camera body weighs approximately 730g without a lens and comes with a 9.44 million dot HDR viewfinder that provides clearer viewing.
