The Malaysian Immigration Department had previously said that the Malaysian passport will come with a new design starting June 1, 2026 which will introduce a number of additional security features that will make the international Malaysian passport even more secure.
However, today, the department has issued an announcement that the introduction of the new Malaysian passport will be postponed to a date to be announced in the future.
According to a statement by Dato’ Zakaria Bin Shaaban, Director General of Immigration Malaysia, this step was taken to ensure the smooth delivery of services and also the citizens’ business experience is at the best level.
He also said that any new announcement regarding the introduction of the new international Malaysian passport will be announced through the official channels of the Malaysian Immigration Department from time to time. For now, the existing passport book is still sufficient for travel abroad, and there are no problems.
