Cross-border taxi services between Malaysia and Singapore have been offered for decades. Until now, passengers could only be picked up and dropped off at one location in both countries. This week, authorities in both countries finally agreed to expand cross-border taxi operations by adding additional pick-up and drop-off locations.
Starting May 4, passengers can be picked up and dropped off at four locations in both countries. In Johor, these are the locations below.
Larkin Terminal
Toppen Shopping Centre (IKEA Tebrau)
Mid Valley Southkey
Angsana Johor Bahru Mall
While in Singapore, these are
Ban San Street Terminal
Century Square Shopping Mall
MRT Joo Koon MRT
Vivocity
Taxis from both countries can only offer services at the eight locations above. Pick-up and drop-off directly from homes are not allowed at all. Vehicles used must not be more than 10 years old. For Malaysian taxis, vehicles must be equipped with the devices required in Singapore such as the ERP2 barrier-free toll payment system.
At this time, only GrabCab has accepted the newly announced cross-country taxi operating license. GrabCab will charge fares starting at S$80 from Singapore to Johor and starting at RM240 for taxis from Malaysia to Singapore.
