Meta Says More Product Discovery Searches Are Now Done on Instagram Than Google

Meta is now sharing its latest findings, and says there is a change in the way users use the service, where users are now more likely to search for products on social sites, rather than using Google.

Meta says there is a difference between social search and traditional search engines. Traditional search engines are more focused when users know what they want and want to get information related to it. While social search is more used if users are interested in something and want to learn more about it from a trusted source. With the form of short video and image display, users are more likely to trust and learn about a product they want.

According to Meta's findings, 92% of users now use social platforms to search for product information, compared to 79% using regular search engines.

In addition, 63% of users buy faster due to the display method on social, and 65% are more confident in making a purchase after seeing a product through social sharing.

This also shows a change in the method of discovery and further knowledge related to something compared to before, when many relied solely on Google.

For yourself, do you now do more searches using Instagram and TikTok, rather than Google?
