iOS 27 was just announced yesterday and I have been using the beta version early this morning to test it myself. But what is the percentage of use of the latest iPhone operating system? According to data published by Apple, 79% of iPhones in the world are now using iOS 26. Meanwhile, 14% of iPhones are still using iOS 18 and another 7% are using older versions.
At the same time, 86% of iPhones introduced in the past four years use iOS 26. It is not surprising that the latest version of the operating system is used by the majority of newer devices. But an interesting situation can be seen on the iPad where 68% use iPadOS 26, 17% use iPadOS 18 and the remaining 15% use older versions.
For development, this latest data makes it easier to produce applications because you only need to focus on devices with the latest operating system. On Android, it is estimated that around 54% of devices use Android 16 followed by Android 15 (11%), Android 14 (10.72%) and older versions are around 24%.
