Governments of several countries are now considering and reevaluating their reliance on one artificial intelligence model, after the US blocked the use of Anthropic’s Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models to non-US citizens since the end of last week. The move also caused Anthropic itself to disable access to their new model for all users worldwide.
The Canadian Prime Minister said that this situation is due to over-reliance on one model. He also added that no one is at fault in this, but we are at fault if we just accept it and do not learn from it, or do not develop something from it.
In addition to the access barrier to this new model, previous rumors also said that the US government may take a stake in OpenAI – just as they have a stake in Intel. This gives more reason why a country should have its own sovereign technology offerings.
In addition to Canada, several European countries have also emphasized technological sovereignty by developing their own offerings, in addition to India which has also begun to consider its own funds in developing its own offerings.
