Leapmotor Begins CKD EV Assembly at Stellantis Factory, Gurun, Kedah

Leapmotor is one of the electric car brands that has been established in Malaysia since 2024 with its first model, the Leapmotor C10. Responding to the government's call, they have now begun CKD assembly for the Leapmotor C10 model at the Stellantis factory, Gurun, Kedah.

The Stellantis factory in Gurun, Kedah is also the assembly plant for Stellantis' previous cars, namely Peugeot, and also produces cars and car parts for the regional market. This factory is capable of producing 60,000 units of vehicles per year. Stellantis has spent around RM 25 million to adapt this factory to produce Leapmotor electric cars for the Malaysian market and this regional market.

The Leapmotor C10 has started to be assembled CKD since April 2026 while the Leapmotor B10 will be assembled CKD in the next 2-3 months. As of April 2026, the Leapmotor C10 is priced at RM 148,000 while the Leapmotor B10 is priced starting at RM 99,800. Both models are offered with rebates during their launch.

Along with this announcement is the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Stellantis and Cycle & Carriage as Leapmotor distributors in Malaysia. Cycle & Carriage is a well-known premium car distributor, and will now offer the Leapmotor brand as an addition to their electric car offering. To date, there are three Cycle & Carriage branches offering Leapmotor, namely Pavilion Bukit Jalil, Georgetown Penang and Paradigm Mall Johor Bahru as well as a 3S Service Center in Glenmarie. This brings the total number of Leapmotor sales centers to 12 and 6 service centers throughout Malaysia.

With this announcement, we may see Stellantis' commitment in offering Leapmotor as their electric car offering for the local market, supported by an experienced dealer network, namely Cycle & Carriage, which has been established since 1899 in Kuala Lumpur.
