This week is the week of smart glasses with Snap SPECS announced with a stereoscopic screen. Xreal has also launched the Xreal Aura with it running Android XR and powered by the Snapdragon Reality Elite chipset.
The Xreal Aura is an augmented reality (XR) glasses of the see-through type (OST) with a 70° viewing angle. A pair of Sony Micro‑OLED screens with a refresh rate of 120Hz are used to merge the real world with the virtual world. The outer part of the Aura glasses can be darkened using an electric current to look like dark glasses.
Through the Android XR operating system, various applications are available for use such as Maps and Gemini. Although Android XR is still new, as many as 100 Android applications are currently available for use. YouTube content, for example, can be watched on a giant virtual screen.
Users can interact with Gemini using voice commands and the built-in camera can see the surrounding area to understand the context of the question being asked. It is also used for the hand tracking system to interact with floating objects. Up to five windows can be opened in Android XR.
Unlike the Snap SPECS, all the processing and battery requirements are included in a separate pack that connects via a USB-C cable. This makes the Aura more comfortable to wear because it is lighter. The pack houses the Snapdragon Reality Elite chip, the Xreal X1S chip, up to 16GB of RAM, up to 512GB of storage, and a 4,455 mAh battery.
Pre-orders are open but the retail price has not yet been announced. Xreal only says that a pair of Xreal Aura will be priced under $1,500 (~RM 6131).
