AirAsia X Berhad is now known as AirAsia Group Berhad, marking a new step towards building a more comprehensive low-cost airline network. The name change was approved by shareholders at the 19th Annual General Meeting on 25 June 2026 and registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia effective 2 July 2026.
Although the new name is effective from 2 July 2026, the company only announced it via a press release on 9 July. The rebranding is also accompanied by a change in corporate structure to go beyond just a cosmetic change. The new structure allows AirAsia Group to reorganise its short-haul and medium-haul network in a more orderly manner.
In fact, the new name also reflects the acquisition of AirAsia Bhd and AirAsia Aviation Group Limited from Capital A effective 18 January following the divestment of its aviation business. The rebranding is part of a corporate restructuring process that is expected to open up new growth opportunities and enhance the passenger travel experience.
The company aims to emerge as a global low-cost carrier with a large network and affordable prices. With a larger fleet, AirAsia Group aims to capitalize on rising demand for air travel in Asia while strengthening its position for future expansion.
