Apple is expected to launch the iPhone Ultra foldable phone around September along with the iPhone 18 series. It is their first foldable device and it seems that Apple has set a very high sales target.
According to a Nikkei report, Apple has told suppliers to be ready to receive orders for up to 10 million iPhone Ultras throughout 2026. This is a large number for a first-generation product. In comparison, Samsung only set a target of 1 million Galaxy Z Fold sales when it was launched almost seven years ago.
This figure of 10 million is still small compared to the production target of 220 million iPhones for 2026. Apple is still aggressively setting high production targets while Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo have all reduced production targets below 100 million due to the worsening RAM crisis.
To ensure that the device can be produced without a shortage of components, it has been reported that Apple has requested permission from the US Department of Commerce to allow them to use CXMT's RAM for iPhones in the Chinese market only. CXMT was blacklisted for allegedly working with the Chinese military.
