Netflix Considers Offering Live TV Channels on Platform

YouTube ushered in the era of video streaming that is displayed when you want to watch. Netflix took a step forward by offering high-quality movies and TV series when you want to watch. But with social media and short videos now dominating the world, Netflix is facing the issue of viewing time on the platform that is increasingly plummeting.

Netflix is said to be considering offering live TV channels to increase viewing time on the platform according to a WSJ report. The idea behind this offering is for Netflix to become like traditional TV with content offered directly on TVs and devices. without users choosing what they want to watch.

Among those also being considered is offering Peacock platform bundles in their applications. This is already offered by Amazon, YouTube TV and Apple TV in the United States. In Malaysia, Unifi TV and Astro have also been offering live content and on-demand content for a long time.

Lately, Netflix has been dabbling in vertical video content, licensing podcasts in the form of videos and most recently short videos published by BuzzFeed, Tastemade and PMX. Netflix once said that their competitor is not Disney+ but Fortnite. Netflix Games was then formed and the first to use their IP was offered to customers.

Their expectations were missed because their competitor was TikTok and the audience's attention span was now shorter. The Netflix Games video game studio was then closed and video game offerings in the app were becoming rarer.

The model of content delivery that is streamed by users seems to be returning to the original with content playing in the background without control like the original model of terrestrial TV. I can tell you this is what is happening in my house now. Open RTMKlik and let it stream live TV like I grew up in the 80s. No need to worry about what to watch.
