As promised by Sam Altman two days ago, OpenAI launched their latest artificial intelligence (AI) model GPT‑5.6 with it being specifically designed to use tokens more efficiently while reducing the cost of use for customers.
GPT 5.6 is offered in three models: the most powerful Sol, the mid-capability Terra and the low-capability but more affordable Luna. Sam Altman says that Sol, for example, is 54% more efficient in using tokens for programming tasks than the previous version.
In addition, Sol also has the ability to perform the best security tasks ever offered by OpenAI. It can simulate cyber attacks to find weaknesses and vulnerabilities in the system, generate cyber attack models and perform security checks and patches on software.
OpenAI also launched ChatGPT Work today with it being a productivity tool for enterprise teams that helps with daily tasks such as producing draft documents, papers and presentations.
GPT‑5.6 is OpenAI’s attempt to provide a competitor to Anthropic’s Fable 5 with comparable capabilities but with lower time and cost of use to complete a given task. GPT‑5.6 is now accessible to customers through the ChatGPT app, Codex, and OpenAI’s API.
