OpenAI has launched its new artificial intelligence (AI) models GPT-Live-1 and GPT-Live-1 mini with the ability to speak and listen at the same time like a human. It is an improvement over the voice models used previously.
With GPT-Live-1, conversations with AI will be more natural and realistic with the ability to laugh, sigh and change the intonation of the voice like a real human. It knows when to be silent and when to speak during use. Sometimes it will only make “hmmm” and “ya” sounds as a sign that it is still listening to what is being said.
For complex tasks, GPT‑Live‑1 will refer to GPT‑5.5 to do deeper thinking with it being able to do real-time web searches and enhanced live translation. From a safety perspective, if the user discusses dangerous topics such as self-harm or violence, the model will provide information to get help and can end the conversation.
GPT‑Live is now accessible to all ChatGPT users worldwide on the Android, iOS and ChatGPT.com apps. GPT‑Live‑1 will be the default model powering ChatGPT Voice for Go, Plus and Pro users. GPT-Live-1 mini is for free users.
