The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 are confirmed to receive 5 Android version updates and 5 years of security patches according to a Sammobile report. This makes them the first Android Wear smartwatches to receive 5+5 years of support.
Last year, the Galaxy Watch8 only received 4 Android version updates and 5 years of security patches. The support provided by Samsung is longer than the Pixel Watch which only received updates for 3+3 years. Both the Watch Ultra2 and Watch9 are the first watches to use One UI 9 Watch based on Wear OS 7 which is the latest version of the Android watch operating system.
On the other hand, the Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series devices receive 7 Android version updates and 7 years of security patches which is comparable to the Google Pixel. So from a long-term support perspective, it is not an issue for Samsung product buyers.
