Uber today announced the acquisition and business integration of Delivery Hero, one of the leading food delivery companies, which also manages the FoodPanda brand in the Southeast Asia region. Uber has made an offer of RM60.3 billion to buy Delivery Hero.
Under this transaction, Uber will acquire 50 markets under Delivery Hero, including FoodPanda Malaysia, Singapore and FoodPanda in several other markets. Apart from FoodPanda, other brands under Delivery Hero that have also been acquired include Glovo, HungerStation, PedidosYa, Talabat, and Baedal Minjok.
Uber said that by combining the platforms together, it will allow Uber to further expand the convenience of delivery to millions of users around the world, while at the same time safeguarding the welfare and opportunities of merchants and shippers.
Uber will maintain Delivery Hero’s headquarters in Germany until at least 2029 before making any changes.
For now, no official statement has been issued by FoodPanda Malaysia regarding this acquisition. The FoodPanda brand and operations are expected to remain as before, until any further announcements are made by Uber.
