The state of Johor is estimated to currently have more than 50 to 60 data center projects that have been approved for development, and about 20 of them are currently under development.
Recently, YTL Power has issued a statement that its subsidiaries, SIPP Power Sdn Bhd and JLG Technopark Sdn Bhd, which is a subsidiary of JLand Group, have collaborated to develop a new data center at Sedenak Tech Park West (STeP) in Johor with a scale of Gigawatt (1000 Megawatt) electricity consumption.
Through this collaboration, SIPP Power will purchase 145 acres of land in STeP West with an option to purchase another 400 acres of land for the purpose of further expanding the data center area. If expanded to a maximum size of 545 acres, this will make YTL Power one of the largest data center management companies not only in Johor, but also in Malaysia, and make Johor one of the largest data center locations in Southeast Asia.
STeP is one of the technology development areas within the Ibrahim Technopolis (IBTEC) technology industrial district that was introduced last year, which is a technology industrial area with a land size of 7290 acres in Sedenak, Johor.
YTL's Gigawatt data center campus at STeP West in Sedenak is expected to operate at a power consumption level of 1.2Gigawatts when fully operational and will complement the YTL Green Data Center Park data center currently operating in Kulai. The data center is currently operating at a capacity of 600MW and will be increased to 1GW in stages.
At present, YTL Power and has not yet confirmed when the STeP West data center will be completed and operational.
