The government is currently considering buying Datasonic Technologies Sdn Bhd for a value of up to RM7.5 billion. For your information, Datasonic Technologies is a wholly-owned company of NexG Berhad, and is the sole supplier of international passports and MyKad.
NexG said they have been asked by the government to provide a price for the possible acquisition of Datasonic Technologies. However, it is emphasized that no decision has been taken regarding this matter, and no agreement has been reached with the government for it.
Today, Datasonic Technologies holds several government contracts, including supplying MyKad, MyTentera, and MyPOCA cards, supplying international passports, and supplying foreign worker identity cards. In addition, they also have a number of intellectual property rights involving biometric identity verification, biometric QR citizen verification systems, including involving digital passports and others.
NexG estimates that Datasonic Technologies is worth around RM7.5 billion. But this valuation is quite high, when compared to the value of NexG's traded shares, which values the entire NexG company at around RM1.23 billion.
For now, no further decisions or announcements have been made regarding this matter.
