NVIDIA has now reportedly agreed to buy Hugging Face for $12.9 billion. This will allow the leading chip manufacturer to also have access to and offer hosting services for AI models and open source datasets – especially for machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Previously, NVIDIA itself was ready to invest in Hugging Face along with a number of other parties, including Google. Rumors regarding the search for a new buyer have been circulating since last week.
Hugging Face also has a subsidiary focused on robotics – which will also balance the portfolio under NVIDIA. Overall, the acquisition of Hugging Face will continue to strengthen NVIDIA's position and product offerings in the artificial intelligence and robotics arena.
For now, NVIDIA or Hugging Face have not yet officially announced this, and it is expected to be done in the near future.
