TikTok is currently reportedly developing a new feature that will allow users to send money to each other, through the integration of payment support in DM (Direct Messsage). This will also allow TikTok to expand their offerings, and also include financial services.
According to Bloomberg, if this feature is launched widely, it will use the TikTok Pay support that is already offered in Southeast Asia. TikTok Pay is used to manage financial transactions on the platform, between sellers and buyers. In addition to purchases, TikTok also makes it easier for users to give gifts to other users in the form of digital currency. This direct payment step is expected to be based on it, but more direct and easier without requiring users to buy digital gifts and so on.
If expanded, it is not impossible that we will see the use of TikTok for payment and receiving payments explode even more, not to mention that the application is widely used worldwide, including Malaysia.
Speaking about it, TikTok representatives simply stated that they are not testing this feature in any market at the moment.
