GoPro is a well-known brand of action camera providers in the market. Most recently, today, an optical company called Starman Optical announced the acquisition of GoPro and combined it with the company Starman Optical, thus forming a new combined company. Starman Capital will pay $285 million for the purpose.
With this combined company, GoPro will continue to offer action cameras and continue their subscription and cloud services. Not only that, GoPro will also focus on a number of new business arenas, including for the defense, government, robotics, aerospace, and even for AI infrastructure. The new combined company will not only emphasize the company's IP, but also its expertise in the optical and imaging arenas.
GoPro previously reached a company value of around $4 billion in 2014, but experienced a decline in its stock trading price year after year. This acquisition process is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
