MediaTek has announced the launch of its latest flagship chip on September 15, 2026 in China. This event is a significant moment because for the first time, the Dimensity series will come with a processor labeled "Pro" which marks the company's new strategy to penetrate the premium chip market. It not only brings improvements in terms of hardware but also comes with software improvements for a more comprehensive experience.
MediaTek is expected to introduce the Dimensity 9600 Pro through this event, a flagship chip that has the potential to be the first smartphone processor based on their 2nm technology. Based on initial information, this chip will use TSMC's second-generation 2nm N2P process while the standard version of the Dimensity 9600 is expected to remain on the 3nm process and offer improvements compared to the Dimensity 9500.
This new chip is said to be able to provide higher performance without increasing power consumption and also reduce energy requirements while maintaining comparable performance levels. With these advantages, MediaTek is clearly showing its efforts to position the Dimensity 9600 Pro as a flagship chip that is not only powerful but also more energy efficient, which is an important step in their strategy to penetrate the global premium chip market.
MediaTek will also focus heavily on the premium segment with improved AI-based GPUs to produce more realistic displays. This move shows MediaTek's continued efforts to challenge the dominance of the latest generation Snapdragon, which has long been the main choice in high-performance smartphones.
