Yesterday, the new MyKad design was officially unveiled in conjunction with Malaysia Day. Applications for the new MyKad will open on September 17, 2026, at over 40 National Registration Department (JPN) branches nationwide. Existing MyKads remain valid for use, and there is currently no directive requiring a complete replacement of the previous cards.
Once you receive the new MyKad, please note that the process for redeeming BUDI95 and BUDIDiesel subsidies will differ from the current procedure. You will need to insert the MyKad upside down into the card reader terminal at the fuel pump, as the chip on the new card is located on the back.
Although the new MyKad features a built-in NFC system, this cannot be used for contactless identity verification at fuel pump terminals in the same way debit and credit cards are.
