WhatsApp Tests “Events Hub” Feature to Simplify Event Management

WhatsApp is currently testing a new feature called "Events Hub." It appears as a dedicated page within the app designed to make it easier for users to create, manage, and view events. Previously, events could only be created within groups or communities, but now they can also be set up in individual chats or directly through the hub itself.

With this function, users can specify the event name, date, time, and location. They can also add a WhatsApp call link and determine whether guests are permitted to bring additional people. Invitations can be sent via a special link, including to individuals who do not have a WhatsApp account.

To create a new event, users simply need to open the hub and select "Create event." They then fill in details such as the name, a brief description, date, start and end times, location, WhatsApp call link, and reminders. A reminder is automatically set for one hour before the event, though this can be adjusted. The host's name is populated based on their account details, and a cover image can be added to make the event easily recognizable.

As previously mentioned, the invitation is accessible even to guests without a WhatsApp account. They simply need to open the link and confirm their attendance by providing their name and phone number. Once done, the full location and call link will be displayed. Hosts can view a guest list complete with names, responses, and phone numbers, whereas attending guests can only see the names and responses of other guests.

For the time being, this feature is available only to selected beta testers. WhatsApp is expected to roll it out to a wider user base in the near future.
