Under Budget 2027, the government has agreed to provide a cost-of-living allowance of RM2,500 to Form Six students. This measure aligns with the benefits long enjoyed by Matriculation students, thereby resolving the disparity in allowances between the two pre-university pathways.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim explained that while the policy decision has been finalized, the implementation details are still being refined. The allowance is expected to benefit approximately 90,000 Form Six students across Malaysia. Concurrently, the government has allocated RM870 million for the Supplementary Food Programme, which will benefit over 800,000 schoolchildren.
This initiative aims to strengthen the pre-university education system while ensuring comprehensive attention to student welfare. With this measure, Form Six students will no longer feel marginalized compared to their peers in the Matriculation program.
