Development of Intel "Raptor Lake Next" Chips Confirmed via Internal Update

Intel appears to have confirmed the existence of the "Raptor Lake Next" processor series—a follow-up to its 12th and 13th-generation lineups—which will include support for DDR4 memory. This decision addresses the current scarcity and high cost of DDR5 memory, which remains largely unaffordable for the average user.

Recent reports indicate that Intel has updated its processor software listings, with the appearance of an entry labeled "RPL-NEXT SST Testbuild." The "SST" likely refers to the Smart Sound Technology driver package—software that enables the processor's integrated audio features, such as noise cancellation, echo reduction, and voice-activated PC wake-up functions.

While this may seem like a minor detail, it confirms that Intel is actively developing the "Raptor Lake Next" series. These processors will be compatible with existing LGA 1700 motherboards, allowing users to utilize more affordable DDR4 memory instead of the costlier DDR5.

It is anticipated that this processor series will be introduced early next year, following the launch of Intel’s newer "Nova Lake" lineup, which will support motherboards using the LGA 1954 socket (also known as the Intel Z990 chipset). The "Raptor Lake Next" series is also expected to include options for laptops.
