Elon Musk Plans to Give One SpaceX Share to Every Child in the United States by 2027

Elon Musk has announced via X that he intends to give one share of SpaceX to every child in the United States by 2027. Musk noted that this is merely the beginning and that he may undertake further initiatives in the future.

Currently, Elon Musk holds approximately 4.8 billion shares of SpaceX—a figure that could rise to 6.4 billion when accounting for factors such as share vesting and other considerations. For context, there were approximately 72 million children under the age of 18 in the United States as of July 2025.

This move follows an announcement by Anthropic that it would allocate 5% of its shares to a public fund; Musk argued that distributing shares directly to the public is a better approach than establishing such a fund. In line with this perspective, he is now taking steps to distribute shares to children across the United States.

Based on current share valuations, this initiative would represent a transfer of wealth amounting to approximately $10.5 billion to children in the United States.
