Google has just introduced the Fitbit Edge, a new health tracker designed to make it easier for both casual users and athletes to monitor their daily fitness.
The Fitbit Edge features an 11.5mm-thick recycled aluminum casing and a new physical side button for practical control during workouts. Key highlights include ECG support, a larger Hybrid OLED display, built-in GPS, and a battery that lasts up to seven days.
It supports over 50 types of activities, providing real-time data such as target pacing for runners, heart rate zones for high-intensity training, and split times for track workouts. The new-generation GPS chip boasts up to 40% better accuracy, while a built-in altimeter allows users to track elevation changes during activities like hill runs or stair workouts.
Additionally, the Fitbit Edge comes with the Google Health Guardian feature, which monitors health trends—such as blood pressure and insulin sensitivity—and issues alerts if the heart rate falls outside the normal range. Google Health Premium users gain access to a Health Coach who can customize fitness plans and provide guidance for discussions with a doctor.
For comprehensive recovery tracking, the Fitbit Edge combines skin temperature readings, sleep stages, and heart rate data to generate a daily recovery score. It is water-resistant up to 50 meters, features a user-replaceable battery, and boasts a modular design, making it Google's first repairable fitness tracker. The Fitbit Edge is priced at USD179.99 (~RM735) per unit.
