There have been claims that transaction charges for QR codes will be imposed starting 1 November 2026; however, these claims are untrue. The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has categorically refuted this, confirming that the circulating poster is fake and that no official announcement regarding the implementation of QR charges has been made.
To prevent confusion, the MOF has taken firm action by publishing an example of the fraudulent poster—which features an image of the Prime Minister—as a warning to the public. This serves not only as a denial but also as a proactive measure to educate the public to be more vigilant regarding information circulating on social media.
The MOF emphasizes that the public should always refer to the Ministry’s official channels to verify the authenticity of any information received. This is crucial to avoid misunderstandings that could undermine confidence in the nation’s financial system. The claims concerning QR code transaction charges are clearly fake news, which the authorities are currently working to address. At present, no QR charges will be imposed, contrary to what is alleged in the viral poster.
