Sony has launched the new LYTIA 720 mobile camera sensor, an upgrade to the LYTIA 700 released three years ago. It is a 50MP stacked CMOS sensor with a physical size of 1/1.56 inches, designed for the primary cameras of smartphones. The product’s main focus is enhanced low-light performance and high-quality HDR video recording.
The LYTIA 720 utilizes Ultra High Conversion Gain (UHCG) circuitry technology, which reduces image noise by up to 50% compared to the LYTIA 700. As a result, brighter images can be captured even in extremely low-light conditions.
In terms of video, the LYTIA 720 supports 4K HDR 60fps recording with all-pixel autofocus. This Quad Bayer sensor also combines data from standard and short-exposure frames to expand the dynamic range. According to Sony, this preserves detail in both bright and dark areas within high-contrast scenes. Production of the LYTIA 720 sensor is set to begin in early November 2026.
