YouTube to Limit Reach of Re-uploaded Clips from Other Creators on Shorts

Recently, a growing trend among channels on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok involves creating short clips from longer videos and re-uploading them. Known as "clipping," this practice is supported by services that pay users to post these clips to their channels, thereby extending the reach of specific discussions beyond the norm.

Recognizing that this practice is detrimental to the platform, YouTube is now taking steps to curb such content. Through a new update, YouTube has announced that it will prioritize original content on Shorts and limit the reach of content re-uploaded from other channels that lacks any original contribution from the uploader.

YouTube stated that its systems will automatically identify content and ensure that original material receives greater reach. This aligns with the platform's existing policies for the main YouTube site, which prioritize original videos and restrict the reach of re-uploaded content that does not belong to the channel posting it.
