The Immigration Department now allows the public to renew passports with a 10-year validity period via the MyOnline Passport platform. Starting today, applicants can choose between a 5-year or 10-year validity period when applying online, eliminating the need to visit an immigration office in person.
This new facility offers greater flexibility to users, particularly those who frequently travel abroad for work, business, studies, or tourism. At the same time, this initiative reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to expand access to online services, thereby simplifying processes for the public through a more user-friendly experience.
Previously, online applications were only available for 5-year passports, while those opting for a 10-year passport were required to appear in person at an immigration office. With this expansion, more procedures can now be completed online, saving time and facilitating long-term travel planning.
Regarding costs, the 10-year passport is priced at RM350, while the 5-year passport remains at RM200. Both versions feature the same security enhancements, including a polycarbonate biodata page, laser-engraving technology, and various additional measures designed to mitigate the risk of travel document forgery.
In a related development, the Immigration Department noted a positive public response to the new version of the Malaysian International Passport. The extended validity period, enhanced security features, and updated design have all received favorable feedback from users. Between July 1 and September 30, a total of 627,142 passports were issued. Of this figure, 541,994 were passports with a 5-year validity period, while 85,148 were 10-year passports. The average waiting time for the issuance of a new passport is approximately one hour after payment, depending on the operational efficiency at the passport-issuing office.
