Reddit, one of the world’s leading forum sites, has begun testing a requirement for users to log in in order to access or view content on the platform. This measure is currently being tested among users in select countries.
Reddit is implementing this as an effort to counter AI bots that scrape their content.
Additionally, Reddit noted that this approach is advantageous for the platform, as it enables more effective ad targeting. The company also observed that logged-in users typically spend more time on the site, engaging in higher-quality sessions.
For now, this change is still being experimented with in several countries; its full-scale implementation will depend on the findings from these trials.
