U Mobile has announced that its Ultra5G network coverage in Sabah now reaches approximately 2.3 million people. This achievement is supported by a partnership with CTS Horizon, which provides the fiber infrastructure necessary to facilitate the expansion of U Mobile’s 5G network across Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
According to U Mobile, this coverage expansion encompasses several key areas, including Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Tuaran, Papar, and Keningau. To date, over 545 network sites throughout Sabah have been upgraded with fiber infrastructure, providing a capacity of up to 10Gbps per site.
This represents a significant leap from the approximately 1Gbps capacity typically associated with previous 4G networks. Furthermore, the new infrastructure has been reinforced to minimize the risk of service disruptions and ensure a higher level of network reliability.
Beyond outdoor areas, U Mobile’s Ultra5G network is also available at various high-traffic locations, such as Wisma Merdeka, Imago Mall, and Kota Kinabalu International Airport. U Mobile stated that this expansion is expected to support commercial, tourism, and business activities, while simultaneously broadening access to high-speed network connectivity throughout Sabah.
