Google Chrome Can Fix Leaked Passwords with One Click

Google Chrome already has a feature that can detect if a password is leaked. Now this browser made by Google can fix leaked passwords with one click.
Previously, the password manager feature in Chrome could only detect if an email or password used was leaked or hacked. Users will then get a notification indicating that they immediately changed their password.

But the process of changing the password is a bit complicated because you have to go to the affected website, go through the sometimes confusing password change procedure, then select the new password and keep it in a safe place.

Now thanks to an update to the password manager feature, Chrome can immediately provide users with the option to change their password if a leak is detected. If Chrome detects a potentially leaked password, a notification will appear that will include a 'Change Password' button.

Once the button is clicked, Chrome will automatically redirect the user to the appropriate website to change the password and suggest a new secure password. The password will then be stored in Chrome’s password manager, as quoted from Gizmodo, Thursday (20/5/2021).

Google says that this feature uses Duplex on Web technology and Google Assistant. Duplex on the Web technology was first introduced in 2019 that can help users complete tasks such as ordering food or buying tickets.

Currently, this feature is only available for certain websites and Google does not say how many websites have been supported by this automatic password exchange feature. But Google says it will expand support for more websites in the future.

This feature has been used in many other password managers, such as Dashlane. Google says that this feature will be used to import data from other managers as well as check for leaked passwords.

This feature will initially be available in Chrome for Android for users who already have passwords synchronized. Google Chrome users in the United States will be able to use this feature first and then roll out to more countries in the coming months.
