Google Releases COVID-19 Vaccine Certificate on Android

Google made a new feature for Android that allows users to store some kind of certificate or passport for the COVID-19 vaccine on their phone.
This feature will initially only be available in the United States, and will depend on support from health service providers, local governments, or other organizations licensed to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine.

In addition to storing vaccine certificates, this feature can also store data on the results of COVID-19 tests. For vaccine information, this system can show when the user got the vaccine and the type of vaccine he got.

Vaccine data can be obtained and stored from the health service provider's application or from SMS or email received by the user.

If seen from the information provided by Google, this feature seems to be similar to the feature in the MySejahtera application in Malaysia, only it seems that the feature made by Google may not be available in the form of an application, but rather a default Android feature.

Google recommends that users save a shortcut to the certificate on the phone's home screen, and they also offer the option to save the certificate to the device.

They also promise that the certificate will not be stored in the cloud and will not use the stored information for advertising purposes. However, they also stated that they will collect some information such as how many times the certificate was used and on what day.

So far in the United States, precisely in some areas such as New York and California, they have implemented their own vaccine certification system. However, the system from Android made by Google may make the identification process easier than having to rely on different applications.
